12. Altered Dominant Scales & Mixolicks.
Altered dominant: the Jazz scale
The altered dominant (alt) scale is used for runs and fills on dominant 7th chords which have chromatic alterations such as #5th, #9th, (b)9th, and #11th.
This pamphlet explains the formula and presents many exercises to help master and apply this scale on common chord progressions and voicings.
The Mixolick is a 6–note variation of the altered scale that is easy to learn and allows you to play with amazing speed.
